At tonight’s P&C meeting, we tabled an email from Jen Armstrong, the Labor candidate for Miranda in the upcoming State election, received last week, in which she writes:
I have 3 primary school children … and know how important it is to have a decent sized hall that everyone can fit into.
…
Although I can’t match the Liberals promise tonight I can hand on heart tell you that if I was elected that this would be a priority for me.
Currently Labor has made a commitment to all NSW schools in the form of:
-Fund all schools to 100% of the Gonski recommendations – currently it is only 70%.
-Clearing your maintenance backlog (Jannali East is sitting at roughly $300,000).
-Replacing all demountables with bricks and mortar classrooms.
-Ensuring that every single classroom is air-conditioned (with solar unless there’s absolutely no sunshine!)
-Giving every P&C $5,000 every year.
-Giving every primary school child the opportunity the learn a second language.
-Making public transport free for every school child 24/7.
-Employ 5,000 extra teachers
-Hire 150 additional specialised education teachers and support staff…
I can assure you that I will be pushing hard from my end for a hall for Jannali East – it’s not good enough that you don’t have one.
I think it’s an honour to represent your area in Parliament and you need to be delivering for the full 4yrs that you are in term, not just busting out election promises at the end of those 4yrs and I hope that I get the opportunity to prove myself in 8 days’ time!!
