The P&C held its second meeting for the year on Tuesday night, thank you to everyone who braved the weather to come along and it was great to see some new faces.
Street safety
The issue of children’s safety in the streets surrounding the school was discussed with couple of people raising their concerns. The P&C, together with the School Council, will be making a joint submission to Council to see what can be done in the area to make it safer for our kids especially around the Box Road, Kingsbury Place intersection and the crossing at Georges River Road/First Avenue/ Davey Street roundabout. This crossing is used by both students and parents when walking to school and there have been far too many near misses over the years.
To help support the action to make the crossing safer a Change.org petition has been setup, I would encourage people to sign this so when the P&C and School Council together approach the council we can reference this for support. Please share the link with your neighbours and encourage them to sign it as well so we can work together to make the streets safer for our kids especially on their way to school.
Also just as a reminder that council rangers are about booking cars that are illegally parked around the school area. Please be mindful of this when picking your children up, ensure you obey the parking signs around the area.
Surplus land
At the meeting it was decided that school along with the P&C and School Council should continue to work with the department to sell off the excess land that is unusable for school purposes and in return get a new multipurpose hall for the school. This is a long and complicated process and has been to date to get this far. We will be posting updates on the P&C website with photos of what we are looking to sell very soon.
Also we are still working on the design of the refurbishment of the canteen that is made possible by the grant we were awarded last year and we hope to be able to share with community these designs very soon.
As always if you want updates on what the P&C is up to or what has been discussed please go to our website www.jepspandc.org.au our next meeting will be on the Tuesday 9th May 2017 at 7.30pm in the library.
